The Condor Express crew took advantage of pristine ocean conditions and located, then closely watched, 6+ humpback whales and 1000 long-beaked common dolphins. Many of the whales were friendly and came up to the boat to visit their fan club.
The action began only 6 miles southwest of Santa Barbara Harbor as an area, rich with dolphins, yielded a mother humpback whale and her calf. The pair made a couple of nice, friendly approaches with great looks to be had by all…whales and humans alike. The dolphins rode our bow, side and stern waves per usual.
Moving further southwest, a trio of whales was encountered as they seemed to be actively socializing (with each other). We had great looks at them rolling around, laying on their sides and heard many vocalizations. The sounds were mostly of the trumpet-blow type. A single additional whale was watched solo in this location and numerous other spouts were seen in the vicinity using binoculars.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
