It’s mid February in Santa Barbara and with it come the gray whales. Which means it’s also time for us to start our, three times a day coastal, early Spring whale watching trips! Whether you are an early riser or more of an afternoon person, we have what you are looking for. Starting at 9am, noon or 3pm, we guarantee you’ll get to enjoy fantastic sea life for the two and half hour trips.
As they start making their way up from Mexico to Alaska, the gray whales and their new born calfs hug the Californian coast. The mothers, being very protective, will usually put the calf between them and the beach in order to protect them from potential predators. Unfortunately for mom but to our greatest delight, the calf can be very playful and will often breach (jump out) or spyhop (pull their head out of the water) near us. They are also quite curious and often come right along our boat in order to take a peek at us.
Being so close to the shore also allows us to enjoy sea lions, seals and inshore bottle nose dolphins, who will often playfully jump in our wake or surf on our bow and much more. You will get to look at a premium view of the Santa Barbara coastline, often dubbed the American riviera, that most do not get to experience. The sandy beaches, the high cliffs of the Mesa, the mansions of Hope Ranch, the blooming multi colored bougainvilleas are all at your finger tips while you sip on one of our famous Bloody Marys or enjoy one of our freshly made sandwiches.
Come join our fabulous crew on an Early Spring Whale Watching trip!
