Captain Dave and the crew of the Condor Express searched the Santa Barbara Channel and came up with a great trip full of wonderful sightings. 1000 long-beaked common dolphins, 2 humpback whales and 50 California sea lions were closely watched today. The day was sunny but included a moderate bump and swell.
The first groups of dolphins located the boat west of Platform Holly. The ritual, and always entertaining, interactions between humans and dolphins took place here and throughout the remainder of the trip. Dave eventually turned away and ran offshore to find more action east of the mid- Channel NOAA buoy.
The next action zone consisted of 2 whales within a ¼ mile and lots more dolphins. Seabirds and sea lions were also working the region. One of the whales came very close to the Condor Express for a “meet and greet.” The other whale threw its tail a few times to be sure everyone was look at it.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
