Three humpback whales and 1500 long-beaked common dolphins were closely watched. The day started with moderately thick overcast conditions, but skies became blue and sunny just after noon. No wind issues today, but a light bump from the northwest kept it interesting.
There were small pods of dolphins here and there, starting about 5 miles south of the harbor. Later in the trip, southwest of Holly, a mega-pod of nearly 1000 joined the fun.
Whales came along one at a time. First we watched a single large adult, then another one. Both were traveling east. The last whale was a smaller juvenile and had pure white pectoral fins. All three appeared to be feeding sub-surface and spent regular intervals on the surface before showing nice flukes.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
