Captain Colton and his crew ran 2 whale watching trips today along the coast of Santa Barbara, one at 9 AM the other at 12 noon. Total sightings for the entire day included 23 bottlenose dolphins and one gray whale. All of the dolphins were coastal bottlenose.
There were three groups of coastal bottlenose dolphins watched. On the morning trip, two groups had 10 individuals each. One of the groups was a nursery pod full of happy cows with their little calves. This is always wonderful to see, and brightens our day. On the afternoon trip we found three additional bottlenose in the South Beach Anchorage. The lone whale was also very close to the harbor and was found as we came back from our afternoon excursion.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
