2 Cooperative Minke Whales and 1 Nice Humpback

2 Cooperative Minke Whales and 1 Nice Humpback

Captain Dave ran a coastal path and went west today.  There were common dolphins everywhere.  The sea conditions were good along the coast, but got a bit more windy offshore.  While on the coast, amidst the dolphins, the Condor Express encountered 2 cooperative Minke whales.  One of the Minkes did something odd:  it swam on the surface at a very high speed right along the length of the boat and beyond, similar to the “racing behavior” occasionally seen by blue whales.  Just off UCSB a nice humpback whale was watched.  It had regular down times and fluked up regularly.

We left the coast and headed out to Santa Cruz Island and a visit to the Painted Cave.  Winds and seas were not as calm out there as we had experienced on the beach, but the sun was bright and warm.  Everyone had great looks at the cetaceans and the north face of the island on a great day.  By the end of the trip we had watched at least 4,000 common #dolphins.

You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
