2018 09-02 SB Channel
Captain Tasha and her crew found excellent conditions in the Santa Barbara Channel today with glassy waters to help us locate and watch wildlife. Totals for the day included: 7 humpback whales, 750 long-beaked common dolphins, and 200 California sea lions.
There were three separate encounters with whales and dolphins today. All of the action was in the mid-Channel region and north of The Lanes. The first encounter was with three whales and several hundred dolphins. One of the whales came very close to the boat and swam alongside so everyone got great looks.
The second encounter was with a single whale that had a beautiful all white tail. It was slowly moving west followed by a pack of sea lions.
On the way home, the final sighting consisted of three more whales mixed with dolphins. One of the whales preached in the distance as we approached…always spectacular!
