A gray whale, a blue shark and hundreds of dolphins.

2019 02-26 SB Coast

A single trip left the docks at noon today and found flat sea conditions along the northern coast of the Santa Barbara Channel. Skies were overcast but it was clear enough to see all four islands. Sightings included 300 long-beaked common dolphins, 1 gray whale and 1 blue shark.

After spending some time several miles offshore with dolphins (and the shark), Captain Tasha ran back towards the beach and put the boat on a single gray whale. The whale was a good fluker, cooperative and great looks were had by all. By the way, the shark was found in close proximity to the dolphins and was a small individual.
