A great variety of marine life today
2015 09-13 SB Channel
Captain Eric put a lot of nautical miles on the Condor Express today as he led whale fans on a search for cetaceans up and down the Santa Barbara Channel. Conditions were nice, and it was not as hot as it has been. A little breeze helped further to keep things moderate. Eric was able to find and watch one nice humpback whale along the 50 fathom curve straight south of Campus Point near UCSB. Throughout the trip at least 575 long-beaked common dolphins were around to enjoy the boat, and a single Minke whale was also watched today. Three nice ocean sunfish, Mola mola, were up on the surface soaking some rays. There was a great variety of marine life today. The excursion also featured a nice cruise along the Santa Cruz Island coast and Painted Cave.
