As Captain Dave calls it, it was a perfect “bluebird day“ skies were clear see you were flat and calm. Sightings today included eight gray whales and a 2000 long beak common dolphins.
The first of two mega pods of dolphins located the Condor Express when we were in The Lanes. There had to be at least 1000 animals. We saw lots of activity and of course they were surfing our bow, side and stern waves. We would encounter a second group of 1000 on the way home. South of The Lanes and on our way to beautiful Santa Cruz Island, we encountered a group of eight whales traveling in a tight formation together. There was quite a bit of socializing going on including some sideways tail flukes, rolling around, etc. To wrap up the trip Dave took a tour of the middle of the island and ended up inside wonderful Pelican Bay where he talked about the history of the island and of course talked about the hotel that used to be at Pelican.
