A pair of gray whales on the morning trip.

2021 03-20 SB COAST

The marine weather forecast was not encouraging, but Captain Dave and his crew successfully ran a single, 9am departure, trip before the wind and waves came up. Two gray whales were closely watched today.

Although it was windy and the sea surface was not perfect, what wind we did experience helped highlight the spouts of two gray whales. We had run up to UCSB and then turned back about 3 miles offshore. On our route back to the harbor the spouts mentioned above were found off Shoreline Drive. An adult whale and large juvenile were followed at a safe distance and great looks were had by all.

Things are supposed to be calmer tomorrow.

Happy first day of spring!
