2020 01-10 SB Channel
Conditions were spectacular. It was sunny and bright with very little wind. We ran across to Santa Cruz Island then west towards Santa Rosa Island. Sightings for the day included 750 long-beaked common dolphins and 2 gray whales.
Groups of dolphins were encountered from the mid-Channel out towards the island where their numbers picked up. Sea conditions enhanced the viewing of these marvelous little cetaceans. Captain Dave brought us along the northern face of Santa Cruz and into the worlds longest sea cave, the Painted Cave. From here we ran across the Santa Cruz Channel towards Carrington Point. Two southbound migrating whales were located and followed. The whales were large and easy to follow on the surface. We had some amazing sightings. You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
