Although the ocean surface was as flat as a mill pond, the stratus layer did come down a little bit today and made visibility spotty. Sightings for the day included six humpback whales and over 100 California sea lions.
Captain Dave took the Condor Express across the Channel and got things started right away with a great tour of the majestic sea cliffs of beautiful Santa Cruz Island and penetrated the outer chamber of the world-famous Painted Cave.
After exiting The Cave we ran west towards Santa Rosa Island and soon spotted our first whale. Next, there were two pairs of whales, one of which did a mighty tail throw that could be seen for miles. Also around the area with the whales was a mob of over 100 animated and fun-loving sea lions.
On the way back home across the Channel a 6th and final whale was closely watched.
