Image: A breaching humpback.
2023 05-03 SB Coast
It was coolish with partly cloudy skies and some nice dark squalls in the distance. We ran around our latest hot spots without much luck, and then hit the jackpot late in the single, 12n, trip. Sightings: 2 humpbacks.
We were 2 miles from the harbor when we located and spent extra time with one of three humpback cow-calf pairs that we’ve seen the past week. As on previous days, the calf breached, rolled around, nuzzled-up to mom, and showed its little tail. Mom, also true to form, was seen in an amazing vertical lunge on a school of northern anchovies. Wow!
You never know what mother nature has in store.
