The Condor Express left the dock at 1pm for a rare afternoon whale watch adventure. It was sunny and seas were calm all day. Sightings included: 3+ humpback whales and 2000 long-beaked common dolphins.
Our first encounter took place as hundreds of dolphins located the boat. We’d be getting great looks at dolphins everywhere we traveled today. We moved west from this first sighting and ended up about 6 miles south and west of Platform Holly. Here the dolphins were found feeding in great abundance and soon two individual whales were watched. The whales appeared to be feeding subsurface and we had good looks during their surface times and saw their mighty tail flukes as they dove.
On the way home we saw a third whale briefly before it headed to deeper feeding grounds. Additional whale spouts were seen in the distance.
