Another north Channel day of fun
We headed east and found a wonderful humpback whale not too far from Santa Barbara Harbor. It was a great whale with short down times and frequent tail flukes. We stayed with this whale for quite a while and everyone had great looks. Of course, the common dolphins were all around the whale, and even when we left and headed west the relentless pods of common dolphins really added a lot to the day. The crew estimated 2,000+ dolphins and 1 #whale. It was a dead calm ocean surface and clear blue water again….which really helps you see what those cetaceans are actually doing “down there.” It turns out to be a fascinating story all its own and usually not visible from the boat unless the water is clear like it is now. There were morning low clouds from the overnight marine layer, and things cleared to bright sun about mid-way through today’s adventure.
