Another outstanding day in the Santa Barbara Channel
A total of 9 humpback whales and 2 blue whales were watched today which included a very friendly single humpback as well as a mother-calf humpback pair. The weather was hot hot hot with calm seas. Most of the big guys were in the same feeding zone out near Santa Cruz Island and once again we surmise that the krill layer was down below the surface a bit. Rounding off the adventure there were two distinct pods of common dolphins, the first around 100 animals and the second was much larger, perhaps 800 – 900. Conditions are fantastic and the animal life is very productive and friendly.
