Another warm summer day in mid November with awesome marine mammals.

2021 11-14 SB Channel

Captain Devin and the crew of the Condor Express found ideal summer conditions again today. Seas were calm and skies were sunny and warm. Sightings included: 2 humpback whales, 500 long-beaked common dolphins and 300 California sea lions.

Devin had slowed the boat to circle the harbor entrance buoy and give looks at the sea lions hauled out when our first humpback whale spout was gleaned. Only 2 miles from the harbor we watched a single juvenile that had short down and equally short surface times.

After a nice run to the west, and ending up a couple of miles outside the soon-to-be-decommissioned Platform Holly, our second whale was located and watched. It, too, was a juvenile but was a bit more active. It did a bit of rolling around and also came by the boat to look at its fans a few times. This whale had an full entourage of sea lions with it.

After a smooth and enjoyable run south to The Lanes, nice herd of common dolphins located us and we had good looks.

As time ran out we headed home and on the way found a slightly larger pod of dolphins that were very boat-oriented. Great for those dolphin selfies!

Awesome job today by Capt Devin and his crew of Adam and Samantha.
