2018 06-07 SB Channel
Clear skies, bright sun and clear, cobalt water near the Channel Islands made for excellent wildlife finding and viewing. Totals for the day included: 3 fin whales and 1 blue whale. Blue sky, blue water and a blue whale!
The Condor Express headed southeast and found all the whales in a fertile area in the Lanes and adjacent to Cavern Point, Santa Cruz Island. Two fin whales were the first animals seen, and one of them was boat friendly. A short distance away we saw a tall spout which, as predicted, turned out to be a single giant blue whale. The blue whale was a very regular tail fluker. A little later Captain Dave and his crew located a third fin whale. It was a small animal, and swam alongside the boat to take looks at its fan club. The little beast also swam under the boat and was clearly visible due to the cobalt water.
