Captain Dave reports a very nice day on the water today with morning stratus burning quickly to warm sun, especially in the southern Santa Barbara Channel. Blue whales, blue skies and a blue shark…what a day.
The Condor Express encountered 4 blue whales today and one was very large. As has happened for the past few days the sun broke through just in time to show off the “blue streak,” the blue glow from the whale’s body as it moves along just a few feet below the surface.
All 4 whales were very cooperative with short down times and long surface times, again like we’ve seen this week. It is wonderful that the fall season has once again marked the return of the giants to our Channel.
A single humpback whale and around 2,000 long-beaked common dolphins were also encountered. Yesterday had one more species in common with today: we watched a lone blue shark on the surface for a while…great looks were had by all. Blue whales, blue skies and a blue shark…what a day. You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
