2016 06-12 SB Channel
Captain Dave headed across the Channel with a boat load of eager whale lovers. It was not foggy, but the stratus loomed overhead. Seas were calm. Totals for the excursion included 8 humpback whales with more in the area, 4 blue whales with more within binocular range, and at least 1,000 long-beaked common dolphins.
A couple of the humpback whales were found on the northern side of the Santa Barbara Channel, and one of them breached nicely. Out into and beyond The Lanes, a larger aggregation of humpback whales were located. The blue whales were here too, and one blue whale did some surface feeding so close the boat that one could look down inside the maw. The largest group of dolphins was not far outside the harbor.
