2019 11-10 SB Channel
The north half of the Channel had great sea conditions but the south half, near Santa Cruz Island, got a bit breezy. Skies were clear and sunny. Sightings today included 2 humpback whales and 1500 long-beaked common dolphins.
Life began in The Lanes. Sounds like an interesting book title. The plot might include loads of dolphins feeding on the surface with numerous hot spots. The spots included sea lions and predatory sea birds all over the place. Two characters, in the form of adult humpback whales, appeared in the next chapter. The duo dove shallow and spent quality time on the surface together for a while, then remained in the story as solo actors. Given the abundance of bait on the surface we expected some surface lunge-feeding, but it did not materialize. Might there be a sequel later this coming week?
The final stop of the day included a tour of the northern face of beautiful Santa Cruz Island and a trip inside the world-famous Painted Cave.
