Captain Dave took the Condor Express on a special early morning excursion leaving Santa Barbara Harbor at 8 am. This morning trip did not leave much time for the fog to clear and we did not have sun and enough lateral visibility to find whales until we reached The Lanes. Our sightings today were north of The Lanes, inside The Lanes and close to the western end of Santa Cruz Island. The early morning produced good sightings.
In total, the trip produced great looks at 2 giant blue whales, 7 humpback whales and about 500 long-beaked common dolphins. Most sightings were good but a few instances of surface lunge-feeding by the humpback whales really spiced things up. Several large oceanic hot spots produced concentrations of dolphins with whales and plenty of sea birds.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
