Captain Dave and the crew of the Condor Express found a sunny day with no wind in the Channel. However, there was a big bump running from overnight winds to the west. Sightings were excellent: 4 coastal bottlenose dolphins, 300 offshore bottlenose dolphins, and one humpback whale.

This was a special charter trip taking out elementary school students for some hands-on ocean science! Our first sighting consist of just 4 coastal bottlenose dolphins that we found up at Hendry’s Beach. We got great looks and the kids did a geography lesson by looking at the land forms from their ocean vantage point.

6 miles offshore we had a wonderful and lengthy encounter with at least 300 offshore bottlenose dolphins. Per usual, they were very animated and friendly. They rode our wake, and did all sorts of great aerial stunts. (see today’s photograph for an example) The pod also had numerous little calves.

Towards the end of our dolphin encounter, a small humpback whale came into the area. We had some wonderful looks. The whale moved around quite a bit apparently searching for food.

You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
