Five blue whales and dolphins too!

2017 08-28 SB Channel

Captain Eric and the crew of the Condor Express had another wonderful day with plenty of giant blue whale sightings and dolphins.  Totals for the day included:  5 blue whales and 25 long-beaked common dolphins.  It was a bit foggy in the morning and moderate winds that were not forecast kicked up a bit.  Nonetheless, the crew used their skills and great looks were had by all.

The day got started when a small pod of dolphins located the Condor Express.  They swam alongside the boat and rode our waves.  The surface waves created by the wind created abundant opportunities for these small cetaceans to go surfing.  The is more evidence that the sport of surfing was not invented by human beings.

Eric stayed on a southern course and aimed at the feeding grounds that the giant blue whales have been using lately.  This strategy paid off and among the giants watched closely there was a mother and her calf.  This was NOT the same calf we’ve been seeing all week, but they, too, made a friendly pass by the boat.
