Captain Dave and the crew of the Condor Express encountered sunny skies today. It was breezy out in the southern part of the Santa Barbara Channel, but very nice and calm in the northern half. The following closely watched cetaceans were reported: 5 blue whales, 1 fin whale and 500 long-beaked common dolphins.
South of The Lanes, where the breeze took hold, the day started off with three giant blues west of the Painted Cave. It is always dramatic to see the tall spouts of these giants being whipped by the wind. More spouts seen to the east resulted in an additional pair of blues plus a single fin whale.
On the trip home two herds of dolphins, each with a couple hundred members, located the boat and got great looks at the humans.
