2018 03-03 SB Coast – It was on the cool side and a little bit windy in the Santa Barbara Channel today. Rain clouds shrouded the Santa Ynez Mountains but never got us wet. Sightings for the day included: 475 long beak common dolphins as well as 4 gray whales.
The first two whales were found near Platform Holly and we followed them west towards Elwood. One of the whales breached at least three times while we were watching it. Soon another pair caught up with the Condor Express and so we watched all four.
On the way back to the harbor two groups of dolphins located the boat. The first group had about 75 dolphins and the second around 400. What a great show it was.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
