Fun with whales and dolphins

2018 04-04 SB Channel

Over the course of three coastal excursions today 4 gray whales, 15 inshore bottlenose dolphins and 80 long-beaked common dolphins were closely watched.  A high stratus layer persisted all day.  Seas were calm.  It was fun with whales and dolphins.

The morning trip followed a very cooperative whale from the lighthouse west to Goleta Bay.  Very nice sightings were had by all.

The mid-day expedition ran to the far west and found a whale near Elwood.  After nice looks, Captain Dave and the crew turned the Condor Express back towards home.  A large pod of bottlenose dolphins located the boat near Leadbetter Beach, in the kelp.

Dave took the boat southeast on the afternoon excursion.  Near the Carpinteria oil rigs a large group of common dolphins found the boat and rode our bow, side and stern waves.  Moving back inshore, two young whales were found near the Biltmore in Montecito and they led us back towards the harbor.

You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
