image: two gray whales head up the coast and into the breeze
2023 03-23 SB Coast
We ran a single 9 o'clock trip today with very stormy and rough seas. All of the wind and waves were coming from the west, which is exactly the direction we needed to travel to follow our migrating gray whales. Sightings for the day included two adult gray whales.
We slowly moved our way up the coast (into the breeze and swells) until we found ourselves about 3 miles off UCSB. Here we located two adults moving as previously described directly into it. Captain Dave and the crew followed slowly behind the pair and we had a great looks considering the conditions. They were very cooperative whales, with only three minutes down and when they came up they used both sides of the boat equally.
You never know what mother nature has in store.
