Clear blue skies and clear blue water prevailed on our noon departure today. During this trip we covered a lot of coastal territory and ended the day with great looks at 3 gray whales.
The whales were followed about 2 miles offshore from Hendry’s Beach to Coal Oil Point west of UCSB. Coal Oil Point is often called “Counter Point” because it is the seasonal home of researchers that count the northbound migratory gray whales every year. Michael Smith and his crew put the Santa Barbara region piece into the big puzzle.
