Great looks at a Mother humpback and her calf to kick off Mother’s Day weekend!

Captain Dave and the crew of the Condor Express ran a single trip that left Santa Barbara Harbor at 12 noon. The sea was absolutely flat calm and mirror glass all day. This was contrasted by stormy clouds that included thunder and lightning overhead. Despite this unusual mix, the sightings were good: to humpback whales and 300 long-beaked common dolphins. Just a mile or two south of the harbor, a small herd of dolphins located the boat and came over to ride our bow, side, and stern waves. After good looks, we moved further outside where two whales were encountered. It turned out to be a mother with her very young calf. The two were very cooperative for viewing purposes…short periodic dives were followed by long periods of logging on the surface. Wow!
