Captain Dave and his crew encountered another flat, calm day with a persistent marine stratus layer. Fortunately, the wildlife has been phenomenal, and today we saw 2 humpback whales, 3000 long-beaked common dolphins, 75 offshore bottlenose dolphins and 400 California sea lions.
Near the NOAA mid-Channel buoy a gigantic megapod of common dolphins located the Condor Express. Miles and miles of these friendly mammals were observed and it was, as always, a mind-blowing sight.
Near The Lanes, another dolphin species, the larger offshore bottlenose, located the Condor Express and wonderful looks were had by all…including the dolphins.
Closer to Santa Rosa Island 2 whales were spotted. It turned out to be the very large mother and her little calf that we reported about a week ago. The mother was rolling over and slapping her gigantic pectoral fins near the boat. It was another spectacular sighting.
