Humpback mother and calf redux.

It was another great trip across the Santa Barbara Channel to Carrington Point, Santa Rosa Island, where we visited with the same humpback mother and calf that we saw yesterday.  1500 long-beaked common dolphins were also watched.  Skies began overcast but things got nice and sunny fast.  Seas were just a tiny big choppy.

Again the hot spot was at Santa Rosa Island, just south of The Lanes.  The humpback cow-calf pair was not as agitated today, perhaps because there were fewer sea lions and no Risso’s dolphins messing around with them. The little calf did slap its tail a few times and also did a head stand or two (putting its tail and flukes straight up in the air for everyone to enjoy).

It is always magical to spend quality time with this pair and watch “junior” learn new tricks day by day.
