Halloween brought the Santa Barbara Channel great sea conditions today, and Captain Eric steered a course to a known humpback whale territory about 9 miles south of the Harbor. There were a total of 2 humpback whales watched today, and they both started the day with very long, 17 – 20 minute down times. Later their behavior changed and the pair actually spent a lot of time logging on the surface. Needless to say, the surface time gave all on board great looks.
Two Minke whales were also watched today, and long-beaked common dolphins were around us in small pods all day…Eric figured a total of 300 dolphins were watched.
Entangled whale update. The little humpback whale we saw Wednesday that was entangled in commercial fishing gear, was spotted today off Orange County.
