Humpbacks and Dolphins in Flat Calm Seas
Sea conditions were flat calm and glassy today with low overcast/fog. We headed off to the west end of Santa Cruz Island in search of activity, and located 3 nice humpback whales. These whales showed great tail flukes and also came close to the Condor Express several times for some fantastic looks. Although the total number of common dolphins seems low at 300, there was great activity as these little cetaceans fed on anchovy schools accompanied by crashing pelicans and all sorts of seabirds in the area. The adventure was capped by our first visit to the world famous Painted Cave in a long time. All in all it was a wonderful day on the Santa Barbara Channel.
