2021 09-14 SB Channel
Seas were calm, a little bit of high stratus kept the sir temperature moderate. We had a total of 11 humpback whales, 3000 long-beaked common dolphins, and 200 California sea lions.
Captain Dave and the crew ran southwest, out towards the NOAA East Channel Buoy area and located a group of 6 humpback whales among lots of dolphins and California sea lions too.
After some quality looks at this encounter, Dave took the Condor Express along the sea cliffs of Santa Cruz Island to the world-famous Painted Cave.
After exiting The Cave, out in The Lanes, we watched another good group of 5+ more humpbacks and lots of dolphins. There was one nice breach in this second group and lots of subsurface feeding activity all day.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!
After having such wonderful sights further offshore (we were several miles south of San Miguel Island at one point) on our special 8-hour whale watch last month, Captain Dave is going to do it again! We’ll have plenty to time to explore every nook and cranny known to cetaceans and look for pelagic birds along the way.
