Lots of humpbacks and dolphins cavort in the turquoise glow

2015 06-02 SB Channel

Captain Dave and the crew took the Condor Express out to The Flats where a plethora of cetaceans were discovered. There was fog on and off all day, and sometimes this fog was thick.   The sea surface was calm.

Out on The Flats we located 8 humpback whales. There was a lot of feeding activity and, at one point, a fantastic double-breach. Around the #whales about 2,000 long-beaked common dolphins circulated. All in all the sightings were amazing.

But another amazing aspect of this excursion was the water color.   Dave reports that the water color has turned a bright turquoise green overnight. Not only was the water itself turquoise, but when the whales and #dolphins swam near the boat while we were in the dense fog patches, the fog itself gave off a turquoise glow.

I’m thinking about bringing one of my plankton nets tomorrow. You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
