A day that started out with a little stratus layer soon turned into a bright and sunny day with mill pond flat and glassy seas. Captain Dave and his crew located and watched the following: 6 humpback whales, 3 blue whales, 600 long-beaked common dolphins and 1 Mola mola (ocean sunfish). The wildlife sightings have made this one of the best summers in years.
The Condor Express headed southeast. Just beyond the Carpinteria oil rig line a region with scattered humpback whales was discovered. Common dolphin groups were all around the area too, adding up to many hundreds of individuals. Although 6 humpbacks were watched closely, there were many more spouts in the area.
Dave continued on his southeasterly path and in The Lanes found several giant blue whales and a Mola mola (ocean sunfish). Again, as with the humpbacks earlier in the trip, we watched 3 giant blue whales closely but another half dozen or so were all around the zone. So many whales, so little time!
