2017 10-24 SB Channel
Today we ran a private whale watch exclusively for cruise ship passengers who got off the big boat and went out on the Condor Express. It was a very warm day, especially in certain eastern Santa Barbara Channel areas where the Santa Ana winds were blowing and the heat was jacked up. Otherwise, the sea conditions and weather were fine. Sightings were great with 8+ humpback whales, 2 Minke whales and 500 long-beaked common dolphins being closely watched.
The action was, as previously mentioned, in the eastern Channel. A dozen or more whales were in the area and we closely watched 8 of them. One was very friendly and “mugged” the Condor Express, something that doesn’t often happen to a high speed cruise ship. Two Minke whales came through attracted by the whales and dolphins, and they are always fun to see.
Tomorrow we resume our regular public whale watch schedule.
