2015 10-24 SB Channel
Captain Dave reported closely watching 8 humpback whales on the Condor Express excursion today. Also watched: 500 or so long-beaked common dolphins and around 15 Risso’s dolphins. Conditions were very nice in the Santa Barbara Channel: flat calm seas, high/thin overcast, warm and clear cobalt water. A mother humpback and her calf also visited us.
Among the activities seen there was a repeatedly breaching humpback whale a bit away from the boat, and several close approaches. The dolphins in clear water were fantastic.
The trip was enhanced further by a tour of the western end of Santa Cruz Island, the largest of our 8 southern California islands, and a close up look at the world-famous Painted Cave.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
