Image: a breaching gray whale.
2023 03-06 SB Coast
Skies were partly sunny and a moderate breeze wafted across the coastal waters. There was a light bump on the water from overnight winds. Sightings included a single, “spectacular” Pacific gray whale.
Captain Devin and the crew located and watched one very active whale about 1 mile south of UCSB. Its breaching behavior in the distance guided is in for this great encounter. The whale continued to breach about 5 more times and also did quite a bit of chin-slapping. It showed its tail fluke on every dive. It was definitely a day that emphasized quality over quantity.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
