2018 03-06 SB Channel – Captain Dave ran two trips today with spectacular conditions again in the Santa Barbara Channel. The first departed SEA Landing at 9 am, the second at 12 noon. Total sightings for the day included: 8 gray whales and 1,000 long-beaked common dolphins.
The morning trip ran west along the shoreline and located 3 gray whales. The first encounter was with a pair, and soon thereafter a single whale was located. The path ran as far west as UCSB.
On the way home at least 500 dolphins located the Condor Express and got great looks at the humans on board.
The afternoon excursion found another 500 dolphins soon after departure. Following a similar path to the west, a pair of whales, then another pair, and finally a single whale was located. All of the whales were moving northbound, but one of the afternoon pairs turned around and swam back east for a while before getting back on the migratory path.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
