Captain Eric and his crew on the Condor Express located and watched 3 blue whales and 25 long-beaked common dolphins today. Conditions consisted of calm seas but with fog, sometimes dense, in the Santa Barbara Channel. The blue whales were spectacular.
The Condor headed east and soon a small herd of dolphins located the boat south of the rigs but north of Habitat. As per usual, the dolphins were animated and surfed our waves all around. Eric continued on an easterly track.
In The Lanes, off Scorpion Anchorage (Santa Cruz Island), 3 blue whales were located. The giants were feeding sub-surface with short dives and long surface, breathing intervals. This pattern made watching the blue whales easy and great looks were had by all.
After some wonderful blue whale moments, Eric did a tour of the eastern sea cliffs of Santa Cruz Island including a look at Scorpion Anchorage and Potato Harbor. On the cruise back to Santa Barbara dense fog kept things calm and quiet.
