Image: a humpback throws its tail
2024 04-03 SB Channel
Conditions were good for both the 9a and 12n trips today. There was a light chop with light wind, but the sun was bright and skies were blue. Total sightings for the day: 13+ humpback whales and 1 Minke whale.
We worked the same hot spot on both trips today, southwest of the Kelp Farm and 6 miles off The Mesa. In the morning, we saw 6 whales. In the group, there were 2 pairs including a mother with her calf. The calf got active and threw its tail around a bit (see today’s photo for an example). In the afternoon, we closely watched 7 whales with several more in the area. Two large adults in the group did some socializing and a bit of kelping. On the morning trip a Minke whale surfaced in the area and then disappeared.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
