2018 03-12 SB Coast – Captain Dave found super flat ocean conditions today and ran two trips one at 9 AM the other at 12 noon. Totals for the day included: five gray whales and 450 long-beaked common dolphins.
The morning trip got started with two nice whales off the lighthouse and we followed them to the west for quite a while. A pod of about 50 dolphins located the boat and turned around and ran east with them until we located a single whale on our way home, closer to the harbor.
The first sighting of the afternoon trip was of a large pod of 400 dolphins which quickly located the Condor Express. Per usual, they surfed our bow, side, and stern waves. A bit later a pair of whales was encountered. These were adult whales and spent considerable time rolling around and “socializing.”
