After processing the images from our exciting orca sighting last Tuesday, Alisa Schulman-Janiger, local cetacean and killer whale researcher, has provided some background information for us. Alisa believe 3 matrilines were represented in our pod of 10 whales. This includes CA51, CA138, and CA122C. She continues: The two larger males are from CA51 as were 2 others. Four were from CA138, and a female plus juvenile represented CA122C. All 3 matrilines had been seen about a month earlier in the Monterey area, but not together.
And now we have 8 more killer whales sighted today…wow!
Thanks for all you do, Alisa!
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
